I rarely leave reviews, but I was so appalled by this album that I had to convey my thoughts.

The reason that Imagine Dragons became popular in the first place was because their music was able to tell stories that changed your perspective on life while simultaneously appealing to a large audience. Now they are just trying to appeal to a large audience, and it''s painfully obvious.

The only good songs are Natural, Bad Liar, and Only. I suppose Boomerang is tolerable, but I would never have purchased it if I had known how boring it was. Almost every other song is either boring, annoying, or incredibly unoriginal.

Natural brings out what Imagine Dragons does best: intense percussion, almost mischeivious melodies, and Dan Reynolds yelling. Had the rest of the album focused on the Imagine Dragons aspect of their music, it would have been a lot better.

Bad Liar and Only are also fun songs, but I have to criticize them because Bad Liar is an obvious attempt to get on the radio, and Only sounds a lot like "Something Just Like This" by The Chainsmokers, and I can''t imagine that was an accident.

The rest of the music is just abysmal. West Coast is not a style they should have attempted. Period. Digital and Bullet in a Gun are two of the most annoying songs I have ever heard. Machine sounds like a little kid singing a weird chant whilst running around a campfire, and then Imagine Dragons decided to cover it. Zero is a disappointment because Dan is singing so fast that you feel out of breath, and if you''re going to have a group make music for your movie, maybe stick with Owl City, who did a good job the first time. I''m not going to waste time talking about the rest.

In all honesty, I think Imagine Dragons probably thought they could get away with a rushed and mainstream album in the midst of their politcal crusade with the hopes that people would enjoy their music because they see the band as a force for good rather than be what they signed up to be: a band that was going to be different and refreshing. Imagine Dragons has dissolved into the untalented mess that is today''s music.

I pre-ordered the album almost immediately when it was up for orders. I''ve loved all the Albums and EPs Imagine Dragons has put out and I can''t really think of a song I dislike from them.
That''s changed however, with Origins. I wish there was a 2 1/2 star rating, because half the album is good and the other half just feels uninspired and bland- nothing like Imagine Dragons has sounded, and not a true "sister album" to Evolve.

Natural, Machine, West Coast, Digital, and Real Life are the highlights for me.
Nautral and Machine are my favorites, they''re BIG sounding songs and experimental (especially Machine) it''s something I''ve loved about songs off Smoke + Mirrors and Evolve.
Something about West Coast I find appealing, whether the catchy beat or the light sound.
Digital is a great little song, though I can''t shake a few parts just sounds like a lot of noise rather than music. The chorus makes up for it, however.
Real Life feels like a song from their first album or their older EPs. It''s a nice call-back and is probably my 3rd favorite.

That said, the rest lie in a middling-to-low territory to me. A lot of the songs have a very generic-sounding pop/hip-hop/and even rap base behind it all, and even more have very repetitive lyrics. They sound like DJ remixes of Imagine Dragons songs so they no longer sound like Imagine Dragons songs. There''s not really a feeling that "oh yes, this sounds like them" to tracks like Burn Out, Only, Bad Liar, and Stuck.

I''m just rather disappointed in the overall turnout of this album, especially since they''ve stayed strong to me throughout their career. I hoped for better, and the first few songs released got me excited, but the overall album leaves me with a feeling of "is that it?"

I can hear the death rattle. Imagine Dragons appear to be a singles band. There''s nothing wrong with that. Duran Duran were/are a great singles band, but when I listen to their canon of work I think they should have just stuck to making singles and left albums to the big boys. Occasionally, Duran Duran would come close, but more often than not their albums were wildly uneven or bland. Such is the case with Imagine Dragons. Their 2012 debut, "Night Visions" was pretty good for a debut. It contained multiple hits. It had a very strong set list. After that.....?

Zilch. "Origins" along with their past two albums have amounted to a few gems and a bunch of forgetters. "Origins" in particular feels rushed. I''m not even sure why the band felt they needed to put out an album so soon after last year''s "Evolve" (which was a misnomer as they didn''t evolve at all).

Of the 12 tracks on "Origins", plus the three bonus tracks that I obtained from the digital download version of the album, there are a few keepers such as "Natural", "Zero", "Bad Liar", "Boomerang" and maybe "West Coast". Elsewhere I found some embarrassing moments such as "Bullet in a Gun", "Cool Out" and "Birds". Then there are the utterly bland, forgettable tracks such as "Digital", "Only", "Stuck", and "Love". The rest? Meh.

For a band whose popularity is at its zenith, "Origins" is a major disappointment. That being said, it''s not a one or two song album. They tried at least. The problem is they seem out of ideas. If only a few songs on each of your last three albums have staying power then you need to go back to the drawing board, knuckle down, get a good producer (only one--buck the system of multiple producers and songwriters).

In fact, what the band should have done is combined the best songs from "Evolve" and "Origins" plus added the single "Born to Be Yours", and then they would have had a good album...probably.

Here''s how "Origins" compares to Imagine Dragons'' other works:

2012 Night Visions: Three and a Half Stars
2015 Smoke & Mirrors: Two and a Half Stars
2017 Evolve: Three Stars
2018 Origins: Three Stars

Awesome, awesome, awesome. Just don''t know how these guys make 80s music mixed with hip-hop and rock and roll sound so unique and amazing that you want to listen to their albums over and over again. Imagine Dragons are on The Cutting Edge musical creativity that every album has a unique flavor, yet with a similar signature that you cannot confuse with anyone else. You will not be disappointed yet again by this Origins album by Imagine Dragons. My three favorite songs on the album are Only, Burn Out and Birds. The songs are just long enough to keep you wanting more and keep you repeatedly listening to the album from beginning to end. And they''re very socially conscious but don''t try to jam it down your throat and ears.Buy it already.
